Well, I used recycled components, also. this damaged floppy unit had several multi-wire connectors. One of them was a two row ten-plug connected to ( of course ) a two level ten pin male soldered to the printed circuit. The pin wires were rounded and with a thin diameter that gently entered the holes of Sony's D8. I unsoldered those pins, then took out the small jacks from the female connector and I plug-in every pin to each mini-jack ( only seven pins, of course- I trimmed the plastic carcase to only 4 holes per row) , soldered the pins to the jacks and put them in again. This way I had a female connector with seven pins comming out of the plastic carcase holes. And since the solded joint are inside the plastic carcase its well finished wothout any other work. Of course the distance between pins were different, but they were almost one centimeter long so it wasn't difficult to adjust them with my tool (a long and thin beeked plier) to fit the distance, and since they are that long they have the flexibility to fit comfortably in. =20 Of course not everybody have a damaged unit, but maybe in an electronics hardware store is easy to find a two-level multiconnector for flat cable, or similar, that fits the job. The photo-diode/photo-transistor pair is nice since you can integrate them to the cable without the need of boxes, you have only to use some isolating tape of the apropriate color. =20 > Thanks for your feedback on my DAT DIY projects on the web. I am going to test something this week-end. If it goes OK I will let you know. The idea is to use a normal sony TV remote to have a wireless remote for commom funtions ( Play, forward, rewind, volume ). The other thing I an looking for is this kit to bypass SCMS, and since I didn't have any response I am looking for info about digital output format, and see if I can use my computer to strip SCMS from the serial=20 stream.
